Connan Mockasin: A Special Solo Performance

HAVE YOU HEARD? invites you to drift into a kaleidoscopic evening of pop oddities and quietly surreal songwriting as Connan Mockasin returns to Bangkok for a special solo performance on 23 October at Black Cabin — an intimate venue known for its moody lighting, deep-listening crowd, and uncompromising music programming.

It’s been several years since the New Zealand artist last played here — his first and only appearance in Thailand was back in 2019, and for those who’ve missed him, this show offers something different: a stripped-down, up-close solo set, just Connan and his guitar, performing new material alongside selections from across his catalogue.

This is a show designed to feel like a night at your favourite music bar: low-lit, quietly buzzing, and filled with people who know why they’re there. You’ll be seated, face-to-face with the music, surrounded by others who’ve been following Connan Mockasin’s unusual trajectory for years.

Connan Tant Hosford, better known as Connan Mockasin, is a singer, songwriter, and producer whose idiosyncratic sound — somewhere between psychedelic pop, soft-focus funk, and bedroom surrealism — has steadily carved out its own corner since the early 2010s. His debut, Forever Dolphin Love (2010), introduced a strange and dreamy world of 70s-inspired textures, warped vocals, and Muzak-styled tenderness laced with unexpected detail. Caramel (2013) took things deeper into groove-based hypnagogic pop, while Jassbusters (2018) and its 2021 sequel blurred the lines between concept album and film score.

In the same year, he teamed up with Ade on It’s Just Wind, a looser, more electronic collaboration that pulled in elements of funk, R&B, soul, and analog ambience. Across his career, Connan has also worked with a wide range of artists including Charlotte Gainsbourg, Dev Hynes, James Blake, MGMT, and John Cale of The Velvet Underground.
